Richmond man arrested in connection with 2024 Berkeley gas station robbery

Berkeley police have arrested a Richmond man suspected of robbing a gas station last year, officials announced Friday.

The 49-year-old suspect was taken into custody Oct. 26 in Pittsburg after allegedly evading and resisting police, according to a Berkeley Police Department news release. He is accused of holding up a Chevron gas station on San Pablo Avenue in November 2024.

Police said the suspect entered the store armed with a revolver, threatened the clerk and repeatedly tried to breach the protected cashier area. When that failed, he allegedly reached through the pass-through drawer and pointed the gun at the clerk.

Investigators said they identified the suspect’s vehicle using an automated license plate reader. In December, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office notified Berkeley police that they had arrested a man believed to be involved in several robberies, each carried out with a silver revolver.

Berkeley detectives obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest in February. He was later apprehended in Pittsburg and booked on multiple charges.

“This is one more example of how technology, coupled with diligence and collaboration, can aid in keeping the public safe while not tolerating senseless gun crimes in our community,” the Berkeley Police Department said in a statement.
