The 2025 Rockies are making history. Or should we say infamy?
They lost 6-0 to the Padres on Sunday afternoon, suffering their third consecutive shutout, something that had never happened before.
Right-hander Michael King toyed with Colorado’s feeble offense and pitched the first complete-game shutout of his career. He allowed only two hits, a single by Michael Toglia in the fifth and a single by Ezequiel Tovar in the ninth. King struck out eight and walked one.
The Rockies have opened the season 3-12, the worst 15-game start in franchise history.
San Diego, now 10-0 at Petco Park, swept the series, winning 8-0 on Friday night and 2-0. The Rockies managed nine hits and 12 base runners in the three-game series while striking out 32 times.
The game was decided in the first inning when the Padres scored four runs on four hits and a walk, off left-hander Kyle Freeland.
This story will be updated.
Colorado’s 3-11 (.125) start to the season is tied for the worst start in franchise history with the 2005 club … the 2005 club finished the season 67-95.
• The Rockies have scored 40 runs to start 2025, the fewest in the Majors … Colorado has scored two or fewer runs in nine of its first 14 games, being shut out for the first two times this season in the last two consecutive games … tied with the 2019 club for the fewest runs scored through the first 14 games in franchise history (2019).
