Romanian motorist sends car ‘flying’ over roundabout in crazy accident

A driver miraculously survived after launching his Mercedes over a roundabout in stunning footage captured on CCTV in Romania.

The 49-year-old, who reportedly fainted at the wheel, was seen hurtling toward oncoming traffic in a video filmed in Oradea, a city in western Romania.

The astonishing footage, caught on December 3 and dubbed ‘the first flying car’ has gone viral.

Moments before colliding headfirst into another car, the vehicle clipped a curb and flew several meters into the air.

The driver suffered multiple fractures but no life-threatening injuries, according to a local media report.

He was trapped in the wreckage before being rescued by emergency services and whisked away to the hospital.

Investigators reportedly said the driver suffered a hypoglycemic crisis, in which blood sugar drops dangerously low, causing him to faint.

This caused him to hurtle toward the roundabout the wrong way and at very high speed.

Photos from the scene show the wrecked car in the aftermath, its bonnet crumpled and window badly damaged.

He was suspended from driving for 90 days and slapped with a 1,600 Romanian Lei fine (£274).

The video has sparked utter disbelief online. One person wrote: “My God, I had the video on full screen and it legit scared me. I hope the driver is okay.”

People are comparing the real-life stunt to Back to the Future and the video game series Grand Theft Auto.

The man is not the first to fall victim to a sloped roundabout.

In 2018, a silver Citroën van flew through the air after hitting a roundabout in Norfolk.

The silver vehicle overtook another van but didn’t seem to anticipate the roundabout.

It flew several meters into the air, and three people were left injured.

Two days ago, witnesses described seeing ‘proper carnage’ after a man was killed in a collision near a magistrates’ court in north west London.

Rubin Nunes, 34, from Peterborough, was left with fatal injuries following a car collision on Chapel Close, Willesden, shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Another man, also in his 30s, has rushed to hospital where his injuries were not considered life-changing or life-threatening.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
