San Carlos: Man arrested in December assault at Caltrain station

SAN CARLOS — Authorities have arrested a South San Francisco man in an alleged December assault on another man who intervened in the suspect’s harassment of a woman at a Caltrain station, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The reported attack occurred Dec. 23 at the San Carlos train station. The suspect was seen harassing a woman; when the victim tried to stop it, the suspect inflicted “significant facial injuries” on the good Samaritan, who was later treated at a local hospital.

The suspect, a 33-year-old man, fled the scene. Thursday, deputies arrested him in South San Francisco and booked him on suspicion of felony battery with seriously bodily injury and assault, according to the sheriff’s office, which patrols the Caltrain system.

As of Friday, the suspect was still in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail, jail records show.
