SAN JOSE — A man was arrested following a double stabbing that ended with the death of another man late Tuesday, police said.
Officers were called around 10 p.m. to the 1300 block of Alvernaz Drive, off Yerba Buena Road and McLaughlin Avenue, for a report of a stabbing at a home, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The officers arrived to find two men suffering from stab wounds, and were told that the attacker was still inside the home. Soon after, the officers arrested a man on suspicion of committing the stabbings.
One of the victims died at the scene, while the second, also a man, is expected to recover. The deceased man’s name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Police said they determined that all three men knew each other and had been in an argument leading up to the stabbings, but declined to disclose additional information about the circumstances, citing an ongoing investigation.
The arrested man, 44-year-old San Jose resident Buu Trinh, was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Clara County jail, where he was being held without bail as of Wednesday morning.
The death marked the city’s 12th homicide of the year investigated by San Jose police. That total was 17 at the same point in 2024.
