The first attempt happened around 1:10 p.m. on May 12 in the 1100 block of South King Road and the second around 4:50 p.m. on May 14 in the 1700 block of Story Road, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release Friday.
Both times, the suspect passed a handwritten note demanding cash, but the bank tellers did not comply, Shih said, adding that the suspect stated in one of the notes that he had a gun.
Police released a photograph of one of the notes, which asked the teller for $7,000 and to “please be prompt.”
The suspect left each bank before officers arrived. Shih said detectives later identified him as a 38-year-old resident of San Jose and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On June 19, the man was arrested at his home and booked into Santa Clara County jail on an attempted armed robbery charge. He is being held without bail at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, according to jail records.
