SAN JOSE — A pedestrian died after he was hit by a vehicle Sunday night, authorities said.
The collision occurred near Payne Avenue and Winchester Boulevard just before 11 p.m., according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department.
In their investigation, police found that a black 2018 Chevy truck had been traveling westbound on Payne Avenue west of Winchester Boulevard and hit an adult man who was crossing the street, authorities said. The truck was occupied by an adult male driver and an adult male passenger, who both stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
The pedestrian, an adult man, died of his injuries at a hospital, police added. The victim’s name will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office once his identity is confirmed and any next of kin are notified.
Authorities noted that the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. State law allows pedestrians to cross streets at an intersection whether a crosswalk is marked or not.
This marks the 20th traffic death and 20th fatal collision of 2025. It is also the 10th pedestrian death of the year.
