SAN JOSE – Prospects from the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Kings will take part in the newly formed — and slimmed-down — Golden State Rookie Faceoff in Irvine next month.
The event takes place from Sept. 12-14 at Great Park Ice and FivePoint Arena. Each team will play two games, with the Sharks playing the Ducks on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. and the Kings on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. The Sharks will begin their main training camp in San Jose shortly afterward.
Tickets are $15 per game and are available on the Ducks’ website. Both Sharks games will also be free to stream on the team’s website without regional restrictions.
The Sharks’ roster for the event will be announced at a later date, but, as of now, it figures to include defenseman Sam Dickinson and forward Michael Misa, two players who hope to make the NHL roster out of camp.
The 19-year-old Dickinson, who the Sharks selected 11th overall at the 2024 NHL Draft, was named the Canadian Hockey League’s best defenseman this past season after he helped the London Knights win the Memorial Cup. Misa, taken second overall by the Sharks at the 2025 draft in June, was the CHL’s leading scorer this past season with 134 points in 65 regular-season games.
Misa said at the draft in Los Angeles that he was not thinking about playing college hockey, and that his goal was to play in the NHL in 2025.
Rookie faceoff events involving the Sharks have previously had more than three teams. Last year’s event in Los Angeles featured the three California teams plus Utah, Seattle, Colorado, and Vegas. The 2023 event in Las Vegas had six teams.
