San Jose State’s star receiver Danny Scudero announces he’s entering NCAA transfer portal

Danny Scudero, San Jose State’s prolific, 5-foot-9 wide receiver, announced Friday he’s entering the NCAA transfer portal.

The former Archbishop Mitty High star had a huge season after transferring to San Jose State from Sacramento State. Scudero, a redshirt sophomore, had 88 receptions for 1,291 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, which enabled him to become a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist as well as an All-Mountain West pick.

Scudero was one of the few bright spots during a disappointing 3-9 season for the Spartans. He was dynamic from the start, getting 189 receiving yards in the season opener against Central Michigan and getting more than 100 yards in five more games.

The Spartans were bracing for this portal news and once the FBS portal opens on Jan. 2, Scudero is expected to draw plenty of interest.

In his season-ending news conference, San Jose State coach Ken Niumatalolo conceded there were a lot of schools after Scudero, and that his program couldn’t compete in a bidding war.

“When people throw out the numbers that they do, it’s staggering,” Niumatalolo said. “It won’t be comparable, but I hope we can put together a good enough package to at least make him think.”
