San Jose: Three dead, suspect at large after home shooting

SAN JOSE — Three people are dead after a home shooting early Tuesday, with the shooter still being sought by police, authorities said.

Gunfire was reported at 12:26 a.m. in the 200 block of Chynoweth Avenue, between Snell and Edenvale avenues, according to the San Jose Police Department. At least one 911 caller described a woman screaming for help.

Police said responding officers found the woman outside a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound. When the officers went inside the home, they found a second woman and a man also both suffering from gunshot injuries.

The woman inside the home died at the scene, police said. The other two victims died later after being taken to the hospital. None of the victims’ identities were immediately released pending their formal identification and notification of their next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Police said an unidentified suspect “fled the scene prior to police arrival,” and that the SJPD homicide unit was summoned to investigate the killings, which marked the 19th, 20th and 21st homicides of the year in San Jose.

No other details were immediately released by police early Tuesday afternoon.
