SAN RAMON — A historic house that dates back to 1852 caught fire Wednesday in an incident that is being investigated as potential arson, authorities said.
The fire broke out at the Harlan House, which is one of the oldest houses in San Ramon, according to a social media post from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
“We are deeply saddened by the destruction that took place today,” authorities said.
The house is located near the intersection of San Ramon Valley Boulevard and West Side Drive, authorities said. The abandoned house was “well involved” when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames and mitigate the spread to surrounding buildings and vegetation, authorities added.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire protection district’s arson investigation team and the San Ramon Police Department, authorities said.
