Savvy passport seekers found a passport fair on Sunday in Van Nuys

San Fernando Valley residents didn’t have too far to travel if they were ready to apply for a passport, because on Sunday the Van Nuys Post Office held a Passport Fair.

Applicants were also able to have their passport photo taken for $15 at the post office on Sherman Way.

No appointment was required, but the U.S. Postal Service press release announcement advised that applicants should fill out their passport forms in advance.

There were required pieces of identification, of course. Passport seekers had to bring in a valid form of photo identification — driver’s license, government ID or military photo ID.

They also were required to bring a certified copy of their birth certificate issued by the state where they were born (hospital-issued certificates are not acceptable).

Alternatively, applicants could bring in an original certificate of naturalization, or an old passport.

For those who missed the event on Sunday but need to get a passport or renew a passport, find information, forms, costs and how to apply for a passport book or a passport card here: www.usps.com/passport or www.travel.state.gov/passport.

For passport information by phone, in English or Spanish, call the National Passport Information Center: 877-487-2778, a toll-free number.
