Cleveland Police said: ‘Cleveland Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy on suspicion of malicious communications following a report of another incident at Manor College in Hartlepool this morning.

‘Due to working in partnership with the school, officers were able to take swift action to ensure the safety of everyone in the school.

‘The boy has been taken to police custody in Middlesbrough where he will be questioned by officers.’

This comes after a dramatic lockdown at the school yesterday.

The school was placed into lockdown with alarms sounding and soon after 11.15am.

One staff member was reported injured in the incident.

A pupil told the BBC the school’s lockdown alarm sounded for 40 minutes and that many people were ‘upset and in distress’.

Executive principal for the Northern Education Trust Andrew Murphy praised staff members who took ‘immediate action to contain the situation’.

He added: ‘Police did attend the academy and remove the intruders.’

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said yesterday: ‘At 11.30am on Thursday, April 3, police were called to Manor Community College in Hartlepool after reports a teacher had been assaulted.

‘No weapons were reported to have been used and no other pupils injured.

‘As a precaution, the school put itself on lockdown. Officers attended to the scene and two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of assault and there is no ongoing threat to the pupils or staff within the school.’
