Search efforts for a missing swimmer will continue Wednesday at the Wood Dale/Itasca Reservoir.
Emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting a possible drowning at the reservoir around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the DuPage County Forest Preserve said. Witnesses say they saw a man swimming before going under and not resurfacing.
MABAS Division 12 dive teams and about 30 area fire departments aided in search and recovery efforts until about 10 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.
The reservoir remained closed overnight and search efforts continue Wednesday morning.
“I am obviously very sorry for the family and those that had to witness their loved one go missing this night,” DuPage County Forest Preserve Chief of Police David Pederson told reporters Tuesday night. “I am hopeful that we will be able to recover their family member.”
