SAN DIEGO — The Giants already have one starting pitcher past his previous career-high workload on the injured list with inflammation in his shoulder, and now they have another.
Left-hander Kyle Harrison was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday prior to the Giants’ series opener against the Padres. In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-handed reliever Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento.

Harrison, 23, joins Jordan Hicks on the IL with the same designation. Hicks had thrown a career-high 108⅓ innings in his first season as a full-time starter, while Harrison logged a career-high 124⅓ in his first full season in the big leagues. Both starters experienced a decrease in velocity and effectiveness in the second half.
In 24 starts, Harrison is 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA and just turned in his shortest and one of his least-effective outings of his young career. He lasted only 2⅔ innings while allowing six runs in an 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, registering fastballs below 90 mph.
Harrison’s next scheduled turn in the rotation would be Sunday, in the final game of their series in San Diego, but the Giants listed that slot as TBD when they announced Mason Black and Logan Webb as their probable starters for the first two games of the series.
Check back for updates.
