SAN FRANCISCO — Giants rookie first baseman Bryce Eldridge will have surgery to remove a bone spur in his left wrist, the Giants announced Wednesday.
The team expects Eldridge to need about eight weeks of rehab, so it is not expected to impact his preparation for spring training.
Eldridge, 20, missed the beginning of the minor-league season due to a left wrist injury and didn’t make his debut with Double-A Richmond until April 22. The Giants’ top prospect was called up to Triple-A Sacramento in June. The Giants’ top pick in the 2023 draft was promoted to the majors in mid-September with 13 games remaining in the regular season.
Over 10 games with San Francisco, he went 3-for-28 (.107) with seven walks. Eldridge, who hit 54 home runs in the minors before his promotion, could open next season as the Giants’ starting first baseman.
The surgery will be performed by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles.
