Sherrelwood man smoked meth before fatally stabbing father, police say

A 30-year-old Sherrelwood man told police he smoked methamphetamine before fatally stabbing his father at their home in the 7900 block of Durango Street, according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.

Connor Allen Paige is charged with first-degree murder, motor vehicle theft and violating three protection orders after he allegedly beat and stabbed his father to death, stole his father’s work van and fled to Elbert County on June 1.

Paige’s father was identified as Robert Allen Paige, 64, by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

Adams County deputies responded to the Paiges’ home the morning of June 1 after a family member called 911 to report Robert Paige had been stabbed to death and they believed Connor Paige was responsible.

Deputies found Robert Paige on the bed in his room with “severe facial trauma,” a cut or puncture wound on his neck and blood on the surrounding pillow and sheets, according to the affidavit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The family member told deputies they woke up that morning and the house was “eerily quiet” and they found Robert Paige in his bedroom, injured, not moving and cold to the touch.

Deputies also found a “hunting-style” knife with a 5-inch blade on the nightstand next to the body.

Robert Paige’s work van was equipped with GPS and investigators tracked it to Elbert County, where police found Connor Paige sitting inside, according to the affidavit.

Paige told police he killed his father and later told investigators he heard voices and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Paige also told investigators he smoked methamphetamine the day before and stayed up all night before killing his father in the early hours of June 1, using a crowbar to beat him and taking a knife from his father’s room to “finish the job,” according to the affidavit.

Connor Paige had three protection orders barring him from living at the home or contacting his father, but the affidavit did not detail why he still lived there.

Paige is in custody at the Adams County Detention Facility on a $2 million cash bond and is set to appear in court July 19, according to court records.
