A gun battle between two masked gunman on a CTA Red Line train left a 13-year-old boy seriously hurt Wednesday night in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The teen boy was riding a Red Line train when he was shot near the Garfield Station at 220 W. Garfield Blvd. about 8:30 p.m., Chicago police said.
CTA video showed a group of people exiting that train when a masked gunman wearing all black began firing inside the train, according to a police report.
The gunman then jumped off the train and began sprinting down the platform while continuing to shoot at the train, the report said.
At that point, a second masked gunman wearing all black emerged from the train and returned fire at the other assailant but he hit the boy, who was standing near the train exit, the report said.
“He takes cover behind a column and then re-enters the train,” according to the report.
The boy was shot in the buttocks and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was in serious condition, police said.
Police recovered several shell casings, a fired bullet, and blood on the seat of a train car and on the platform.
Area 1 detectives are investigating and no arrests have been made.
