He was struck by a Department of Transportation truck on June 12.

The incident occurred in Bay Ridge in the middle of a crosswalk around 3:30 pm.

The 86-year-old was decapitated by the city truck which was turning into the street that Conigliaro was crossing.

Footage filmed by those living near the intersection showed the yellow DOT truck striking the man before coming to a halt a few meters down the road.

Conigliaro’s body can be seen lying in the middle of the crosswalk.

Just moments later, a school bus can be seen attempting to turn down the road before the driver notices the carnage and stops.

“Oh my God, this is a bad day,” a woman behind the camera can be heard saying in the clip.

Cops quickly closed off the street and contained the scene where the truck driver cooperated with them.

The 31-year-old DOT driver who has not been named can be seen in another video dropping to his knees in shock after the incident.

Some bystanders gathered around the inconsolable man who was hunched over in the middle of the street.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, the NYPD has said.

In a statement to The U.S. Sun, the NYPD has claimed that the truck was traveling on a green signal while Conigliaro was “crossing against the don’t walk sign.”

“On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at approximately 1529 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of 92 Street and Dahlgren Place, within the confines of the 68 Precinct,” cops said.

“Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined, a 2019 Ford F550 operated by a 31-year-old male was traveling westbound on 92 Street making a right turn with a green signal onto Dahlgren Place heading northbound.

“The Ford F550 then struck an 86-year-old pedestrian that was crossing Dahlgren Place against the don’t walk sign in a marked crosswalk.

“EMS responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.”

The NYPD added that an investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.

This intersection is incredibly dangerous…it’s past time to take action.

State Senator Andrew Gounardes

Conigliaro lived just minutes away from the notorious intersection where he was killed, cops confirmed.

Locals have expressed their concerns about the traffic in that area after numerous incidents have occurred there with one noting the dangers of the walk signal.

“[The walk sign] turns on but by the time you’re in the middle of the road, then it’s gone,” Bay Ridge resident Samia Haq told News 12.

“Somebody who is disabled or somebody who cannot walk fast- it’s really really dangerous for them.”

Meanwhile, state officials have spoken out about road safety following the tragedy last week.

“My prayers are with the family of 86-year-old Antonio Conigliaro, who was tragically killed crossing the street in Bay Ridge,” state senator Andrew Gounardes wrote on Facebook.

“As residents know, this intersection is incredibly dangerous.

“We don’t have to accept this reality—it’s past time to take action to keep people safe.”

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the DOT for comment.
