A lucky UK player won £7,300,000 in the Lotto draw last night.
If you have a sense of deja-vu reading that, it is because somebody else won £7.4 million on the lottery just two weeks ago.
This coincidence may well have you feeling a bit galled that your biggest windfall is £5 on points in the Nectar app, but who knows: maybe the single ticket holder is you?
Players are advised to check their tickets, as the prize has not yet been claimed.
While we must stress the odds of winning the lottery are vanishingly tiny (you’re five times more likely to be struck by lightning), it is definitely tempting to think you could be that freak anomaly.
Wednesday’s estimated jackpot is £2 million, so you will be a pauper winning that compared to October’s other multimillionaires.
And you wouldn’t be close to entering the Sunday Times Rich List of the 350 richest people and families in the UK, which this year had a minimum entry of £350 million for wealth. Which is something to think about.
Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said: ‘October is proving to be a fantastic month for Lotto players, as tonight’s winner follows on from another lucky ticket-holder who scooped the amazing £7.4 million jackpot in the draw on October 12.
‘Players are urged to check their tickets and to give us a call if they think they are tonight’s lucky winner.’
What were last night’s winning Lotto numbers?
The jackpot winner matched all six main numbers to win £7,359,568 while three players matched five and the bonus ball for £1 million each.
The winning Lotto numbers were 09, 16, 30, 41, 44, 47 and the bonus number was 13.
Set of balls 11 and draw machine Arthur were used.
No ticket-holder matched all five numbers to win the £350,000 top prize in Lotto HotPicks, which uses the same numbers as the Lotto draw.
Eleven players won £13,000 for matching four of the five numbers.
The winning Thunderball numbers were 06, 09, 15, 32, 38 and the Thunderball number was 07.
One ticket-holder won £500,000 for matching all five numbers and the Thunderball, and two players won £5,000 for matching five numbers.
To check your ticket, open up the lottery app on your phone, or find your paper ticket and see if the numbers match up.
