Sizemore a possibility for Venable’s White Sox coaching staff

White Sox coach Grady Sizemore was considered for the manager’s job after he took over for fired skipper Pedro Grifol for the last 45 games. Now Sizemore waits, with everyone else on the Sox’ coaching staff, to see if they’ll have a place on new manager Will Venable’s staff.

“We’re not going to set a timetable on that,” general manager Chris Getz said. “There’s no need to rush into things. It’ll take shape naturally, organically. We don’t want to force anything.”

Getz would only say that “there will be coaches that are coming back. We are working through the specific roles, and you know we just started having those conversations with Will, but there will be some familiar faces.”

Several coaches have another year left on their contracts, including Sizemore. Players and other coaches spoke highly of Sizemore before and after he took over as interim manager. So did Getz.

“I’m grateful for Grady to step up the way he did, what we asked him to do in a very trying time,” Getz said. “I felt like he did exactly what we asked him to do in August and September and am proud of the relationship.”

During his interview with Getz, Venable asked what would become of Sizemore if he got the job. Getz said it would be up to Venable.

“We’ve continued to have conversations on how Grady can fit and certainly take advantage of the skill sets and the traits that Grady has and see if he can be part of improving this culture and getting us where we need to go,” Getz said. “But I know that Will certainly holds Grady in high regard.”

Venable undoubtedly has new coaches he’ll want on his first staff.

“I don’t know what the timeline is,” Venable said.

“We’ve started to have the conversations with Chris and the guys. That’s ongoing, but we have started the process.”
