MINNEAPOLIS — The Sky have signed second-year guard Marquesha Davis to a seven-day hardship contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Davis was drafted 11th overall by the Liberty in 2024 out of Ole Miss and spent her rookie season on New York’s championship team, though she never cracked the rotation. She was waived on July 13 this season.
“She’s athletic, has good size, can get downhill and get to the basket,” head coach Tyler Marsh said. “That’s something we can use for sure.”
The Sky’s guard play has leaned more on spot-up shooting than rim pressure this season, with most of the team’s playmaking running through forward Angel Reese. Having a young guard who can attack the basket could help.
Whether Davis will suit up Tuesday night against the Lynx is still unclear — she did not participate in shootaround, and Marsh said her availability is “to be determined.”
The Sky qualify for a hardship signing due to multiple injuries: Ariel Atkins is expected to miss at least three more games with a leg injury, and Courtney Vandersloot has missed 10. Michaela Onyenwere is also out Tuesday with a knee injury.
Atkins’ absence is tough for a team trying to build on recent progress. She’s the Sky’s second-leading scorer at 13.9 points per game and their top perimeter defender. She did not travel with the team to Minnesota and is continuing to receive treatment.
The Sky were blown out by the Dream before the All-Star break with both Atkins and Angel Reese sidelined. Reese is off the injury report for Tuesday — a needed return for a team currently sitting 11th place in the standings and fighting to stay in the playoff picture.
Reese is averaging 18 points and 15 rebounds over her last 10 games.
Collier scored a record 36 points to help her team beat Team Clark 151-131 in the WNBA All-Star Game that was devoid of defense but full of 4-point shots.

Reese is misread at times, but her constant communication is pivotal to her growth. As she elevates her playmaking, her teammates are encouraging her to shoot with confidence.

Legacies of underinvestment don’t disappear overnight. But the league is making big moves. Maybe the question now isn’t whether it was ready but whether you are.
