Southbound lanes on Interstate 57 were shut down Sunday morning after a person was fatally struck by a passing vehicle near Country Club Hills.
Authorities said a multi-vehicle crash occurred on I-57 near Vollmer Road around 4:05 a.m. and an occupant from one of the crashed vehicles left their car and was struck.
The unidentified person was pronounced dead, according to Illinois State Police.
Another person was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries, officials said.
Southbound lanes of I-57 and the I-80 ramp to I-57 southbound were closed as of 7:35 a.m. Sunday.
No further information was immediately available.
