Steve Stone returning to White Sox broadcast booth on multiyear deal

The White Sox announced a multiyear deal with veteran broadcaster Steve Stone Thursday.

Stone, 77, will begin his 18th season as a Sox broadcaster, and will work fewer games.

“I wanted to sign a long-term contract that would ensure I will spend the rest of my career with the Chicago White Sox,” Stone said. “I have spent almost the entirety of my time in baseball in Chicago, first as a player and now as a broadcaster. Throughout all this time, I have viewed the White Sox as my family, and I just want to spend my days with the people who I consider to be members of my family.”

Steve Stone has signed a multi-year contract extension to remain the Chicago White Sox TV analyst, as was just announced on the NBC Sports Chicago broadcast (the final White Sox home broadcast ever on the network, which won’t exist after Monday). ⚾️📺🎙️ #MLB https://t.co/4mLCTFQWEd pic.twitter.com/NnmZbwcqg6

“Steve is recognized as one of the best in the business, and we are so fortunate to have the White Sox be his home,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer. “His expertise and presence in the booth add depth and knowledge to every broadcast. Steve is treasured by White Sox fans, and we look forward to many more seasons of the iconic Steve Stone on the White Sox broadcast.”

Stone, a former Cy Young Award winner as a pitcher, is in his 42nd year as a broadcaster and was a 2023 Ford Frick Award finalist.

Stone told the Sun-Times in August that he hoped to continue broadcasting beyond next season.

“I feel like I can still do it on a high level,” he said. “I want to do this for a while longer. I would like to see this team get a little bit better. Lack of performance in a performance driven industry is difficult to deal with but we have wonderful people to deal with. It felt like a family from the time I got here. That’s not something you can manufacture.”

Stone will continue to work alongside Sox play-by-play announcer John Schriffen on Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), the new TV home for the Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox starting Oct. 1.
