Residents in flooded areas of south Wales have accused forecasters of a lack of warning over Storm Bert.

Andrew Morgan, leader of Rhondda Cynon Taff council, said he was surprised that ‘this isn’t a red weather warning’ as the scale of damage in Pontypridd was revealed.

While the Met Office said Storm Bert was ‘well forecast,’ some residents in Pontypridd said they didn’t have enough warning, reminding many of the memory of Storm Dennis in 2020, BBC News reports.

Now Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has said the warnings given to residents in Wales about the severity of the storm will be reviewed, while the Met Office said it will carry out a full assessment.

Storm Bert has swept across the UK, causing flooding and landslides in south Wales while a danger to life warning has been issued in Northampton after River Nene burst its banks this morning. Two men died in separate incidents after being swept away in rivers, and three drivers were killed over the weekend in separate incidents on icy roads.

The Met Office has warned of further heavy rain in Scotland, with a yellow warning in place until midnight.
