Summer heat ramps up this week; cooling centers will open over the weekend

The Chicago area is in for some hot and humid weather beginning Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Scattered showers and storms are forecast for the area beginning Wednesday morning and through the afternoon. Some severe storms were also possible, weather officials said.

Thursday and Friday will remain dry, with temperatures in the 80s, weather officials said.

But on Saturday and Sunday, hot and humid conditions were expected to set in. Temperatures could reach the upper 90s, but the combination of heat and humidity could make it feel above 100 degrees, weather officials said.
