Sunny days and 80-degree temperatures expected this weekend for Chicago area

The last weekend of May promises to be sunny and warm, as long as Chicagoans can make it to Friday, forecasters say.

An end to the unseasonally cool weather is just around the corner, National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro said.

“We will finally see a pattern change entering into June. We are seeing a warmer summer pattern,” Castro said.

It all begins Friday when temperatures will inch toward 80 degrees, stopping just short at 79. Both Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy with a small chance of scattered showers, according to Castro.

While Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny and hit 80 degrees, the pleasant weather will continue and get a little warmer into Sunday with an expected high of 82 degrees.

Though sunshine peeked through the clouds at moments on Wednesday, cooler temperatures persist in the upper 60s through Thursday, according to Castro.

Thursday’s high is expected to hit 70 degrees, and it will be partly cloudy with scattered rain.

The warmer weather could still be accompanied by scattered rain or storms, according to the weather service.
