Ready to Learn
Sunnyvale Community Services is aiming to collect 2,500 backpacks for local K-12 students by Aug. 1. The annual Ready to Learn Program is designed to ensure that low-income students start the school year equipped with new backpacks and supplies.
The goal for this year’s drive is 1,000 backpacks for K-4 students and 1,500 backpacks for students in grades 5-12. For the former group, character backpacks like Disney and superheroes are the most popular. Among the latter group, plain-colored backpacks in black, gray and blue are highly requested, with Jansport being the preferred brand.
New backpacks can be delivered or shipped directly to to Sunnyvale Community Services, 1160 Kern Ave. Donations can be dropped off Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday 9 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4 p.m.
