Suspect arrested after Oakland police officers come under fire

OAKLAND — A man was arrested early Friday after he shot at police officers responding to a domestic violence report in West Oakland, authorities said.

Neither the suspect or any officers were injured.

The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 1000 block of West Grand Avenue. According to initial reports, the man was involved in a domestic violence incident with a woman and two children.

Officers identified themselves as police and moments later at least one shot was fired at them. No officers returned fire.

Police were able to contain the scene; eventually the occupants, including the suspect, exited the residence and the suspect was arrested. None of them were injured.

A pistol was recovered inside the residence, police said. No other details have been released.

Chief of Police Floyd Mitchell said the shooting “is a reminder of the dangers our officers face when responding to calls for service. I am grateful no one was hurt and I commend our officers’ professionalism and courage in protecting the victims and our community.”
