SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – Authorities on Thursday arrested an East Bay man on suspicion of robbing and kidnapping a person at gunpoint last month in South San Francisco.
The episode was reported July 14 in the 2500 block of Bantry Lane, according to the South San Francisco Police Department. The victim told officers he invited the suspect, an acquaintance, to his home, where the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money from the victim.
The suspect then ordered the victim to drive him to a nearby bank to withdraw more money, police said, adding that the victim complied because he feared for his life.
Afterward, the suspect left the area in a vehicle.
Detectives ultimately identified the suspect as a 26-year-old Oakland man. During the investigation, he continued to contact the victim and threatened to harm him if he did not send additional money.
On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested the suspect in Oakland. The man, a convicted felon, was also found with a concealed firearm, according to police.
Police said the man was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on charges including first-degree robbery, grand theft and felon in possession of a firearm.
