Suspect arrested in Summit County wildfire that closed I-70

One person was arrested Sunday in connection with a weekend wildfire near Frisco that temporarily shut down part of Interstate 70, city officials said.

The fire sparked just before 5 p.m. Saturday on public land off of I-70 in Frisco, according to a news release from city officials.

It burned about 6.3 acres outside of a Whole Foods on Meadow Drive before it was contained, mostly on the Meadow Creek conservation easement, officials said in the release. The nearly 11-acre easement was designated in 2020 and includes wetlands, river banks and floodplains.

Police arrested a suspect Sunday afternoon on suspicion of starting the fire intentionally, according to the release. The suspect has not been publicly identified, but investigators believe they’re not from the area.

No injuries or structural damage had been reported as of Monday, but the wildfire remains under investigation.
