Bay Area Rapid Transit Police arrested a suspect Sunday afternoon in connection with a slashing attack that injured a woman on a train the previous day in San Francisco.
The suspect was spotted around 2 p.m. Sunday by an alert station agent at Fruitvale Station, who contacted BART Police. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody without incident.
The arrest followed an unprovoked attack that occurred Saturday morning aboard an Antioch-bound train approaching the 24th Street/Mission Station in San Francisco. The suspect allegedly slashed the neck of a 54-year-old woman, then fled the scene by exiting the train at 24th Street/Mission.

Surveillance footage aided police in identifying the suspect. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to the hospital, and her name has not been released.
In a news release, BART Police described the suspect as “dangerous” and had advised the public not to approach him.
This incident is one of several recent violent acts on BART.
Last month, four teenage girls were arrested for beating and robbing a 34-year-old woman at the Lake Merritt BART station in Oakland. Meanwhile in July, a 74-year-old woman from Daly City was pushed to her death onto an oncoming train at the Powell Street station in San Francisco.
