Suspect in fatal Aurora shooting forced his way in to apartment with gun, police say

Aurora officers are searching for a 30-year-old man suspected of forcing his way into an apartment and shooting two women, killing one of them, police said.

Michel Jordan Castellano-Fonseca allegedly forced his way into the Aurora apartment in the 1000 block of Cimarron Circle just after 3 a.m. Sunday and fired multiple shots, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Two women and five children were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said.

A 26-year-old woman died from her injuries at the apartment, and paramedics took a 30-year-old woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The children were not injured.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will identify the 26-year-old victim.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic-violence incident earlier that day, after which Castellano-Fonseca threatened to come back to the apartment with his gun, police said.

Castellano-Fonseca reportedly fled the scene of the shooting in a green Acrua MDX SUV with Colorado license plate CVO668. He is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Anyone with information on the shooting or Castellano-Fonseca’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
