OAKLAND — It started as an argument between two women who threatened to get their pimps involved, and resulted in a man and woman being nonfatally shot.
Now, the suspect has been sentenced to nine years in state prison through a plea deal, court records show.
Theodis Evans, 48, pleaded no contest to two assault with a deadly weapon charges and was sentenced last month, court records show. For now he remains at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
Evans received credit for one-and-a-half years and can reduce his prison term by half with good behavior, records show.
Prosecutors charged Evans last November with assault, pimping, and gun possession in connection with the July 8, 2024 shooting. Police said at the time that two women began arguing while walking in a part of International Boulevard known for prostitution. One women contacted Evans, while the other reached out to a man in his late 20s.
Both men pulled up in their vehicles, and the man in his 20s allegedly encouraged the two women to have a fistfight. Evans allegedly retorted, “she ain’t about to do nothing,” before opening fire at the two victims, who were both struck by gunfire but survived, according to court records.
Evans, a Stockton resident, has prior pimping convictions from 2017, in Santa Clara County, and 2021, in San Joaquin County, according to court records.
