SUV crash on South Side leaves woman, 38, dead

A 38-year-old woman died Thursday morning after an SUV struck a pole at about 5:01 a.m. in the East Side neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department. The driver fled the scene, police said.

A gray GMC SUV was traveling along the 3400 block of East 95th Street when it hit a pole, according to police.

The woman was a passenger in the vehicle and suffered injuries to her head and body. She was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

No other injuries were reported. The Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
