Teen charged with robberies on CTA trains, carjacking

A teenage boy has been charged with multiple armed robberies on CTA trains and carjacking another man this month on the Near West Side and North Lawndale.

The 17-year-old is accused of robbing a 16-year-old girl and a boy, 17, at gunpoint on a Blue Line train in the 400 block of South Racine Avenue around 9 p.m. March 21, according to Chicago police.

Less than an hour later, the boy stole a car from a 57-year-old man in the 3600 block of West Grenshaw Street, police said.

He also is accused of taking belongings from two men, ages 25 and 38, while on a Blue Line train in the 400 block of South Western Avenue on March 13, according to police.

The boy was arrested Thursday in North Lawndale, police said.

He is charged with three felony counts of armed robbery, two felony counts of robbery, one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking and one misdemeanor count of obstructing identification.
