Teen who stabbed boy, 17, to death on crowded dancefloor at end-of-term party is unmasked as he’s jailed for life

A TEEN who stabbed a 17-year-old boy to death on a crowded dancefloor has been unmasked as he was today jailed for life.

Yura Varybrus was just 16 when he knifed Charlie Cosser at the end-of-term party on the grounds of a £1.5million farmhouse.

The killer, 17, was today named for the first time after reporting restrictions were lifted at his sentencing hearing.

It can now be revealed Varybrus is the son of Ukrainian parents and attended the same school as Charlie, although the pair had never met.

He has now been jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years after being convicted of murder.

Varybrus had originally admitted the offence but this was vacated and he stood trial instead.

In a victim impact statement, Charlie’s mum Tara told how her son had come across “pure evil” that night.

She added: “How can I possibly imagine a life without Charlie? He had so much to live for.

“Now, I’m living a life without Charlie. But it’s not living, it’s just surviving.

“I feel like I’m just going through the motions of life. I feel so weak, wishing so hard to be the mum I was.

“I know we are strong and we won’t let this break us, but we are no longer the husband and wife, brother, uncle, family we once were.

“We have the life sentence.

“Charlie will be forever 17.

“I’m scared, petrified of the future.”

Brighton Crown Court heard how the horror unfolded in July last year as 200 teens gathered at the remote Surrey farmhouse.

Varybrus – described as a “big lad” by witnesses – had been asked to leave the party by an older man because of his apparent behaviour towards a young woman.

He was then seen pulling a knife out of his bag as Toxic by Britney Spears played over the speakers.

The killer stabbed Charlie three times in the chest after a fight broke out before telling his friends he had “stabbed someone five or six times”.

Charlie died two days later after his aorta – the main artery from the heart – was cut.

Varybrus meanwhile claimed he could not remember anything about the killing after drinking heavily that night.

He exchanged a raised fist salute with his dad as he was taken down to the cells after being convicted of murder.

Speaking after the hearing, his dad said: “It’s not just him, we are all guilty.

“He is a child, we are all responsible and should have been making sure they were not drinking. I never saw him drinking before.

“I haven’t been able to see him for five days and he is only 16 – he is a child.

“We need him to know we love him and we will stay with him all his life.”
