What is a Land Cruiser? A Land Cruiser is a midsize SUV built in the Hamura, Tokyo, Japan assembly plant and sold worldwide by Toyota. The all new 2024 Land Cruiser comes in 3 trims: The 1958, Land Cruiser and the First Edition model.
Every Land Cruiser has a 2.4 liter inline 4 cylinder gas turbocharged engine with 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, paired with a hybrid electric motor, then bolted to an 8 speed automatic transmission, routed into a full time 4WD driveline, with center and rear locking differentials, and all models have a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 lbs.
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958 model has a base price of $55,950, the Land Cruiser starts at $61,950 and the top tier First Edition model starts at $74,950. Land Cruiser is designed to be able to handle harsh environments, and has extremely capable off road technology. It’s smaller and narrower than the previous model, making it more nimble. It responds much quicker from driver inputs of steering, power and braking.
As a very capable SUV, the new Toyota Land Cruiser features a gas engine and a hybrid i-FORCE MAX power train; which features a 1.87 kWh nickel-metal hydride battery. The battery can drive the vehicle short distances, as the hybrid driveline primarily assists the gasoline engine. Meaning, you can not use the battery for any long range electric only driving, but it can drive a few miles on all electric power under some specific conditions.
This week Toyota sent me a 2024 Land Cruiser to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this 4WD Hybrid Wagon is $61,950. The options on the test SUV are: the 20″ alloy wheels for $1,240, the Land Cruiser Premium Package for $4,600, the two tone roof treatment for $350, the trailer hitch ball mount for $80, the rear carpet cargo mat for $130, the full set of carpeted floor mats for $179, and a set of factory installed wheel locks for $105. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $1,395 destination charge, is: $70,029.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your driveway total purchase price came to: $78,783. At just $217 under $79 Grand, you get a new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser with hybrid technology, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with pre-collision avoidance protection, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alerts; all running through a 4G network. It’s everything you need to be safe and sound with instant updates 24/7.
The hybrid drivetrain gets 22 MPG in city driving, 25 MPG on the highway and 23 MPG in combined driving. The greenhouse gas rating is a 5 and the smog rating is a 6; both out of 10. Not bad for an SUV that has a stabilizer disconnect mechanism, multi-terrain select, crawl control, downhill assist control, and can literally go anywhere, on or off road, while you drive safely in any weather condition such as snow, dirt, slush, sand and mud.
This Land Cruiser has the Premium Package that takes the option list to a higher level. It starts with illuminated entry, a digital key, a power moonroof with a sunshade, a center console cool box, a digital rear view mirror, wireless phone charging, a leather trimmed power drivers seat with memory, head up display, lane changing assist, front cross traffic alert, traffic jam assist, 4G connectivity, and a JBL premium sound system with a 800 watt amplifier driving 14 speakers that offer a very high quality audio experience.
There are several reasons to buy a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: the new Land Cruiser is smaller, more affordable, and more fuel efficient than the previous model as it has a standard hybrid powertrain that combines a turbo 4 cylinder gas engine with hybrid technology. The new Land Cruiser is capable of handling rugged terrain, it has features like lockable center and rear differentials, an electronically disconnect front anti-roll bar and a trail camera system with next generation technology inside and out.
