Temperatures there reached 27C (81F) yesterday, but soared to 30.3C (86.5F) at London’s Heathrow.

Ollie Howarth, 30, was at the front of the Glasto queue.

He said: “We got the 4am coach from Bristol to be here.”

Met Office forecaster Ellie Glaisyer said yesterday’s 30.3C – the year’s hottest day so far – would bring the three-day hot-streak to an end.

The mercury will cool today with temperatures widely returning to their June average of around 20C (68F).

But London and the South East will hold onto the warmer weather with 28C (82F) possible across the region today.

Met Meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “A midweek peak in the heat but then temperatures closer to average from Thursday onwards.

“Much more agreeable temperatures, and although there will be a few spots of rain on Thursday afternoon as that cold front goes through, Friday, Saturday, Sunday we’re back to sunny spells, light winds and highs of 21C.”
