MOUNTAIN VIEW — Firefighters extinguished an apartment kitchen blaze that displaced three adults Tuesday morning, according to a press release from the agency.
At 8:24 a.m., the Mountain View Fire Department received reports of a fire in a multi-family apartment complex on the 1900 block of California Street, authorities said. Upon arrival at 8:28 a.m., firefighters found an active kitchen fire on the second floor of the two-story building. They extinguished the flames “quickly,” authorities said, and prevented further spread.
The occupants of the building evacuated before firefighters arrived on scene, authorities added.
The firefighters also cut open the walls and roof of the affected apartments and used thermal imaging cameras to measure the heat behind drywall to ensure that the flames were completely extinguished, the department said.
The fire department determined that the blaze originated in the kitchen but the cause remains under investigation, they said. The damage is estimated at about $325,000.
Three apartments were impacted by the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted to find temporary housing for three displaced adults because gas and electric service were disconnected, the department added. Those who were impacted were also each given a $250 gift card by the California Professional Firefighters Union Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency Program.
Santa Clara County Paramedics evaluated one resident for injuries but they declined transportation to a local hospital, authorities said.
