Three dead, one injured in head-on crash on South Side

Three people were killed and another person was injured in a head-on crash early Sunday morning on the Far South Side.

The incident occurred in the 11200 block of South Stony Island Avenue at about 3:04 a.m., when two vehicles, both Dodge Challengers, were traveling northbound and southbound on the same side of the street and collided head-on.

The 20-year-old male driver of the red Dodge Challenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old male passenger of the red vehicle was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The 21-year-old male driver of the black Dodge Challenger and the 19-year-old female passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The identities of those involved had not yet been released as of Sunday morning, and police said the investigation continues. No additional details were immediately available.
