Three people were killed when a vehicle lost control and crashed on I-290 in northwest suburban Itasca, shutting lanes down for over four hours late Wednesday.
State troopers responded to the westbound lanes of I-290 to I-355 around 11:40 p.m. for a vehicle that lost control and struck a bridge support beam, Illinois state police said.
All three occupants inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
All westbound lanes of I-290 were shut down until about 4:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
The fatal crash is the second expressway accident to leave three people dead Wednesday.
Three people standing outside the scene of a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 were struck and killed by a fourth vehicle that hit them as it sped by, leaving five others injured just after midnight Wednesday.
