Nearly 200 flights were delayed Tuesday amid a thunderstorm-fueled ground delay at Denver International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at DIA just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. That traffic management program is expected to run through 8 p.m., according to the agency.
As of 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, 199 flights headed in and out of DIA had been delayed and two were canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.
Flights at that time were being delayed an average of 30 minutes, but delays were expected to increase after 5 p.m., FAA officials said.
Southwest delayed 90 flights, followed by 59 from United and 31 from SkyWest. Another seven airlines delayed between one and five flights, according to FlightAware. Both canceled flights were United flights.
