A 1-year-old girl died last week when a car crashed into an irrigation ditch near Brush in Morgan County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, April 24, state patrol troopers responded to a car that had crashed on Morgan County Road S and rolled into a water-filled ditch, according to a news release from the agency.
The driver, an unidentified 34-year-old woman, was headed eastbound on Morgan County Road S near Hazel Street in Brush with two children in the backseat when she drove off the side of the road and into the irrigation ditch, state patrol officials said in the release.
Officials said the woman and a 3-year-old girl were able to get themselves out of the car, but the 1-year-old was stuck in her car seat when the car was submerged in water.
A Brush police officer rescued the child and paramedics took her to the hospital, where she later died, state patrol officials said. The driver and the 3-year-old were both injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials said no charges have been filed.
