Her family then reported her missing on September 25 when they arrived at her house in Nelson Avenue to find it empty.

In the desperate hunt to find Mary, CCTV cameras revealed she walked along Railway Road at 3.30am that morning – in what turned out to be the last sighting of her.

A body has now been discovered in a town clock at Bentinck Dock in King’s Lynn.

Five weeks on, a member of the public made the horrific find around 11am on Thursday.

Formal identification is yet to take place but Mary’s family have been informed, say police.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

It comes after there had been no sign of her despite specialist search teams being deployed.

At the time of her disappearance, Mary’s daughter shared a heartbreaking appeal on Facebook.

She said her mum would be “confused” and was in her white pyjamas and slippers – as she asked people to keep an eye out.

She wrote: “Please anyone in the Downham Market area or near keep an eye out for my mum Mary White she has gone missing either last night or early hours of this morning, she will probably be confused, as far as we know she is still in her pyjamas and slippers.

“Police are out looking so please any sightings or anything contact them or me.”
