This is certainly one way of getting rid of trespassers on your land.

French farmers took matters into the own hands by spraying manure after travellers descended on an area in Hautes-Vosges in the east of the country.

The incident was captured by photographer Loic Madre which saw tractors driving around in circles unleashing the unsavory mess to make the land uninhabitable for the dozens of caravans on site.

Angry men are seen sprinting after the tractors, with one even seen holding on to the side and shaking his fist.

Loic said the farmers were eager to get them off the grass ahead of harvest in the next few week.

The grass is set to be used as animal feed.

Loic told Daily Mail: ‘It was difficult to negotiate with the travellers; they refused to listen. The farmers received no support from the local authorities or the police.

‘So they handled it on their own! As you can see in the images.’

Did the novel approach to eviction work?It appears the efforts did, according to Loic, after the travellers left a few days later.

Health impacts of being sprayed by manure

Hydrogen sulfide is a gas that is produced during the decomposition of manure.

Health effects depend on the concentration (ppm) inhaled:

  • 2 – 20 ppm: Nausea, headache, dizziness
  • 50 – 100 ppm: Altered breathing
  • 100-300 ppm: Pulmonary edema
  • 500-700 ppm: Collapse in 5 min, death 30-60 min
  • 1000 ppm: Nearly instant death

The video was posted on X and has since gone viral with more than 11,000 retweets.

One user called Brugade Jean Michel pointed out: ‘The sprayed liquid is pig manure. The smell is so strong and long-lasting that the air is unbreathable for several days.’

Another person named AngloGenXer said: ‘Feel good video of the day, that.’

Terri Lipanovic also liked the video and added: ‘This is so good!’
