UCLA adds transfer QB Madden Iamaleava, who joins older brother Nico

The UCLA football program has gained a second Iamaleava at quarterback. Madden Iamaleava, the younger brother of Nico Iamaleava, officially transferred to UCLA on Monday afternoon.

Madden, a 6-foot-3, 191-pound early enrollee, was recruited by the Bruins as a four-star recruit out of Long Beach Poly High but flipped his commitment to Arkansas on signing day. UCLA is currently midway through spring practices.

Madden backed up his older brother as a dual-threat quarterback while playing at Warren High and went on to throw for 3,626 yards and 43 touchdowns with four interceptions in the 2023 season. He did not play during his senior year at Long Beach Poly after being denied eligibility by the CIF Southern Section following his in-season transfer between the two high schools.

The move adds to a flurry of transfer activity at quarterback that has taken place over the past two days. Nico Iamaleava, who helped lead Tennessee to a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff last fall, officially transferred to UCLA on Sunday afternoon and the day after that, Joey Aguilar completed a swap of sorts by transferring from UCLA to Tennessee.

Aguilar had originally joined the Bruins during the offseason after two successful seasons at Appalachian State.

The Bruins’ offense averaged 242.17 passing yards per game in 2024, which ranked ninth out of 18 teams in the Big Ten Conference.
