UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond receives contract extension through 2029

UCLA has extended athletic director Martin Jarmond’s contract through 2029, the school announced in a press release Thursday morning.

“In just four years, Martin has redefined UCLA Athletics – creating new opportunities for Bruins to compete on the biggest stages, making major investments in student-athlete wellness and success, taking important steps to shore up the financial health of our athletics enterprise and putting an inclusive culture at the center of the department,” UCLA Interim Chancellor Darnell Hunt said in a statement. “We are excited that he will continue to shepherd our legendary athletics program into a new era.”

Jarmond, 44, and UCLA agreed to a six-year contract in 2020. Since then, the school has won 18 conference titles and five NCAA championships while also moving into the Big Ten Conference. The NCAA team titles under Jarmond – two in men’s volleyball and one each in men’s and women’s water polo and women’s soccer – brings UCLA’s total to 123 at the Division I level, second only to Stanford’s 136.

UCLA has also partnered with Nike’s Jordan Brand for a uniform, footwear, apparel and equipment deal and developed Champion of Westwood, the school’s NIL collective, during Jarmond’s tenure. Champions of Westwood now has three branches, including a Bruins for Life fund specifically for football.

“We’ve accomplished a lot in four years, but there’s much more to be done,” Jarmond said in a statement. “I get to work with extremely talented individuals, and they are even better people. Together with our staff, coaches, supporters and alumni, I look forward to continuing to serve our student-athletes and helping them achieve excellence while representing the four letters with pride.”

Jarmond was the athletic director at Boston College prior to coming to UCLA and also served as an assistant athletic director for development at Michigan State.
