The rain bomb will set off a salvo of thundery showers lasting until Saturday.

A Met Office spokesman told The Sun: “We have an area of low pressure forecast to affect the UK later this week.

“It will give noticeable rainfall across a broad swathe of the UK for a time.”

The Environment Agency has issued 11 amber flood alerts across England.

But the agency said the general flood risk across the country is very low.

Today will be bright if unseasonably nippy for many, with some sunny spells and scattered showers.

But the showers will likely become heavy in the Midlands and along the east coast before easing this evening.

Tonight will be chilly and clear ahead of another bright and rather cool day tomorrow.

There will be more sunny spells and scattered showers in eastern parts, before the rain bomb drops on Thursday.
