It will be largely dry in most places, especially towards the south west of England.

There will still be heavy and frequent showers in the east and north east – with a chance of thunder.

The showers will ease tonight, with some patchy rain lingering over northern Scotland.

Overnight there will be light winds with clear skies for many, although a little patchy mist or fog is possible.

It comes after revellers at Download Festival in Leicestershire told how they were stranded in a “mud bath”.

Posting on Twitter, one said: “Because of the situation leaving last night, we aren’t coming back today.

“It just isn’t worth it, cars were getting stuck for hours with no help, no staff at ALL. Arena also a literal mud bath.”

Forecasters have now told revellers heading for Glastonbury to pack both wellies and sun cream.

Met Office expert Nicky Maxey said: “At the moment we have fairly dry ground which would be good for the festival.

“There is rain forecast today which would change things, although how I’m not sure.

“We will have a much better idea as to what to expect in the coming days, as we get closer to Glastonbury.”

Tomorrow will be dry with sunny spells for many and showers across eastern Scotland and north east England.

It will feel pleasant in the sunshine with light winds and a little rain in the far south east.

The showers will peter out later in the week and it will feel warmer in the sunshine.

But there will still be some rain in the far north and the far south east heading into the weekend.

The Environment Agency has issued 11 amber flood alerts across England.

Flooding is possible from surface water in parts of northern England today and tomorrow.
